Joan Armatrading and 2012 Cultural Olympiad

Well 2012 has started with a bang! My band Holliday Street have been given the fantastic oportunity to open a gig for 3 times grammy nominated singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading. We won this gig with our song ‘Old Town Blues’ which we are now in the process of recording ready to be released on a compilation album of all the bands who will be supporting Joan in her 2012 tour.

We will be opening for Joan, with support from award winning musician Chris Wood, on 19 November in Stoke-on-Trent at The Victoria Hall.

 I’m also really pleased to announce that Urban Fox Folk will be returning this year, with me at the helm, at a new home at The Bulls Head in Moseley, Birmingham on 4th April with the Bonfire Radicals.

I’m also in talks with the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) about producing an Urban Fox Folk platform as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad in celebration of the UK premiere of Heiner Goebbels’ Walden. More on this to follow…

As ever, check out the gig listings for all details on future events at a town near you!

Holliday St Quartet @ Bulls Head, Moseley :: 11 January 2011

I’m curating a gig at The Bulls Head, Moseley on Jan 11 2011! Holliday St are playing lots of brand new songs, so come on down!

Here’s what we have lined up so far…

Abie’s Miracle Tonic ::

 It’s an ‘effervescent…esoteric…energetic…and (occasionally) off-the-wall…’ concoction of ragtime, blues, jazz, spirituals and novelty songs on guitar, washboard, vocal harmonies and trumpet impersonations!
performed by Abie Budgen, Dan ‘the washboard man’ Wilkins, and his shimmying sister Kate!
